Struggling to Read the Bible? Find Clarity & Connection

Struggling to Read the Bible? Find Clarity & Connection

Have you ever sat with an open Bible, feeling like you’re trying to read a foreign language? You want to draw closer to God, you want to understand His Word, but it just feels so difficult—like a maze without a map.

You are not alone. Many people experience this, even those who have been Christians for years. But God didn’t give His Word just for a select few—it is for you! So, how do we move from feeling lost and confused to feeling fulfilled and enlightened?

1. It’s Normal to Struggle

If you struggle to read the Bible, it doesn’t mean you’re a bad Christian or that something is wrong with your faith. Even the disciples didn’t always understand what Jesus was saying. They often asked Him to explain things again!

“The Spirit of truth… will guide you into all truth.” – John 16:13

God knows we need guidance. That’s why He gave us the Holy Spirit to help us understand.

2. Don’t Try to Eat the Whole Feast at Once

The Bible is a big book, and it can feel overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. Here are a few tips:

  • Start with Jesus – Read the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) to get to know His heart.
  • Read a Psalm or Proverbs a day – They are short, powerful, and practical.
  • Use an easier translation – Try the New Living Translation (NLT) or The Message.
  • Listen to the Bible – Sometimes it makes more sense when you hear it rather than just reading it.

3. Pray Before You Start

The Bible is not just another book—it is God’s living words. Before you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you:

“Lord, help me understand what You are saying. Open my heart to Your truth.”

God wants you to understand His Word—He is not hiding anything from you!

4. Focus on Relationship, Not Just Information

Many people feel stuck because they think they need to understand the entire Bible before they can truly know God. But it’s not just about knowledge—it’s about relationship.

“You study the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life. And yet, the Scriptures testify about Me!” – John 5:39

The purpose of the Bible is not just to fill your head with facts but to bring you closer to Jesus.

5. Don’t Just Read It—Live It

Sometimes the Bible feels distant or hard to relate to because we only try to read it but don’t live it. Start small:

  • • If you read about love, ask: How can I show love to someone today?
  • • If you read about faith, ask: What do I need to trust God for right now?
  • • If you read about forgiveness, ask: Who do I need to forgive?

When you start living out what you read, it will begin to make so much more sense!

6. Don’t Give Up—Growth Takes Time

Just like a baby can’t eat solid food right away, you won’t understand everything in the Bible overnight—and that’s okay!

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” – 1 Peter 2:2

Every time you read, you plant a seed in your heart. It may feel small now, but over time, it will grow and bear fruit.

Final Thought: The Bible is for You

If you’re struggling to read the Bible today, remember these three things:

  • You’re not alone—God is helping you!
  • You don’t have to understand everything right away—it’s a journey.
  • Don’t give up—keep feeding your soul, and you will grow!

The Bible is not just for pastors, theologians, or “super-Christians”—it’s for you. Keep reading, keep seeking, and you will find Him! ❤️📖✨
